In an effort to honor people who have made significant and exceptional contributions to the advancement of the wireless telecommunications industry, RCR will sponsor the Wireless Hall of Fame, with input and support from the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association and the Industrial Telecommunications Association.
The first RCR Wireless Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place March 20 at The Phoenician resort in Scottsdale, Ariz., as part of a senior management conference hosted by Shorecliffe Communications Inc. and RCR. Representatives from RCR and industry associations will select a number of judges from industry leaders to review nominations and vote on those to be inducted. Leadership, innovation and excellence in performance will be among the traits judged.
“As wireless communications becomes mainstream, we seek to recognize those who were integral in laying the early and strong industry foundation,” said RCR Publisher John Sudmeier. “The eventual inductees will no doubt attest to their early struggles and their occasional frustration, but also to their unwavering belief in this new communications platform. Frankly, mobile communications wasn’t always so chic. Who better to remind us all of this truth than the great builders of this industry.”
“This is an industry that has been blessed with a lot of pioneers. As our industry matures and goes into different stages, it’s important to memorialize the impact others have had,” said Tom Wheeler, president of CTIA. “The people who are in the industry today have the privilege of standing on the shoulders of those who came before them, and it’s important to recognize that.”
“It’s an honor for ITA to be a sponsor,” said Mark Crosby, president of ITA. “The industry is moving at a very fast pace, and there were many, many contributors who laid the groundwork for the success that many of us have had to date. I think it’s appropriate that we recognize those people who have contributed so much in their professional careers to the wireless industry.”
The tentative call for nominations begins Sept. 6 and will close Dec. 6. Inductees are expected to be announced Feb. 7. RCR will announce the availability of entry forms and provide further information in the coming weeks.
