SAN FRANCISCO-Discover Brokerage introduced a wireless investing service called TradeRunner, which uses 3Com Corp.’s Palm III and Palm IIIx personal digital assistants.
The service allows customers to control their investment portfolio from the devices, including the purchases and sales of equities, mutual funds and options; access stock quotes and breaking market news or stock activity alerts; and review account balances, holdings, orders and other activities.
The solution was developed with Aether Technologies Inc., which makes software that connects enterprise systems with wireless data networks.
TradeRunner packages range from $50 to $580, depending on hardware needs, plus a $70 start-up fee and a $70 a month for airtime.
Discover Brokerage said it hopes to extend the solution to the Palm V and to handheld devices using the Windows CE operating system as well.
