NEW ORLEANS-Loc8.net and Glenayre Technologies Inc. said they entered into an agreement under which Glenayre will develop a new two-way paging device that can alert police and other emergency officials of a pager’s location in case of an emergency.
The device also will help users locate missing or lost people by giving street address locations through full map displays over the Internet or through a 911 certified call center, said the companies.
Glenayre expects to develop a device smaller than a pager, which will allow subscribers who don’t need two-way messaging to track valuable goods and belongings as well. Possible uses include attaching the device to a pet’s collar to alert owners of their pet’s location.
The devices will be available to consumers as early as third quarter 2000, the companies said.
