NEW YORK-StarMedia Network Inc. announced plans to expand its Spanish- and Portuguese-language Internet media business to wireless devices, including cellular phones and personal digital assistants. The company acquired PageCell International Holdings as part of the initiative.
The new StarMedia Mobile division plans to partner with carriers in Latin America to deliver StarMedia’s contents and features such as e-mail, weather, horoscopes, sports, finance and other personalized information to wireless devices. The company said it will begin offering the wireless service in October.
Miami-based PageCell will form the foundation of the new division, said StarMedia. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
