Agilent Technologies debuted the SQL server 7.0 database scanner and HP SFCommand. HP SFCommand will help network operators integrate all security applications, such as monitoring and the implementation of security policies, across every server in their networks. The SQL Server 7.0 database scanner enables SFProtect users to find security holes in SQL Server 7.0 databases and fix them. Pricing for the HP SFCommand starts at $4,500, and it should be available in December. The SQL Server 7.0 database scanner starts at $995 and should be available later this month. Agilent also introduced the HP accessATM/IP network monitoring system. It is designed to help network operators, engineering and planning groups deploy and maintain packet voice gateways connected to the existing public switched telephone network by performing analysis of network and service performance. Orbit/FR
Orbit/FR Inc. introduced its automotive antenna measurement system, which enables automotive manufacturers to measure and verify the proper operation of wireless automotive systems, including radios, global positioning systems, cellular phones and collision avoidance. The system combines both far-field and near-field measurement technology, providing antenna measurements from 30 MHz continuous to 6 GHz, with optional extension to 18 GHz. Orbit/FR also announced its new cellular measurement system for handsets and base station and GPS antennas. The system operates on a wider frequency range, including the 400 MHz band, and offers measurement accuracy of plus or minus 0.3 dB, typically at 800 MHz, and measurement time of less than 90 seconds at 2 GHz. Digital Microwave
The 38 GHz model of Digital Microwave Corp.’s Altium broadband radio now is available. The radio is capable of transmitting 155 megabits per second SDH/SONET capacities using only 28 MHz of spectrum. Qualcomm
Qualcomm Inc. announced the pdQ diagnostic monitor, a handheld device for wireless testing of Code Division Multiple Access and personal communications services network and handset performance. Available in CDMA digital 800 MHz and 1900 MHz versions, the monitor allows field and network engineers to collect data in public locations. Its diagnostic monitor functions include temporal analyzer searches, dip switch setting, log mask configuration, Markov statistics, signal graphs and up to two hours of data logging in diagnostic monitor format. Vodafone
Vodafone plc introduced the Safecall+ subscription pager, designed specifically for hazardous environments where occurrences such as chemical leakages and extreme temperatures are part of the customers’ daily work routine. Safecall+ is a single-line text pager with a standard silent vibrate alert. It can receive full text messages of up to 80 characters and stores up to six messages, among other features. Hewlett-Packard Co. introduced a non-intrusive co-channel interference detection system for the HP E7475A Global System for Mobile communications-based drive test system. Special algorithms in the GSM drive test system’s receiver detect co-channel interference and decode the base station identity code of the primary and secondary interfering signals. Network operators can locate the sources of co-channel interference without turning off base stations. Paragon Networks International has made available the PATHmaster3, the newest member if its MASTERseries T1/E1 backhaul platform for wireless service providers. ZiLOG Inc. debuted the Wave chip family of wireless spread spectrum voice and data controllers based on ZiLOG’s Z87L02 device. It is easily switchable between 32 kilobits per second voice and data in half- or full-duplex communication, and the family supports adaptive frequency hopping at rates up to 250 hops per second. WolfeTech
WolfeTech Corp. announced it will provide its PocketGenie to various new devices such as Palm Pilots, cell phones and Windows CE devices through a new system called AL, which allows users to access PocketGenie data without installing the software on their devices. AL is an Internet-based system, so any digital devices capable of sending and receiving text messages can access PocketGenie information by sending an e-mail message to the AL system and enter the appropriate service name and parameters in the message body, which the system is able to understand as a command.
