STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson announced that it and IBM Corp., Lotus, Oracle, Palm Computing Inc. and the Symbian group have formed an alliance to advance applications based on the General Packet Radio Service.
The GPRS Applications Alliance strives to introduce packet data to mobile networks as the first step to help evolve Global System for Mobile communications and Time Division Multiple Access carriers to third-generation network technology, said Ericsson.
Ericsson first formed GAA in June with an open invitation to the industry to join. IBM, Lotus, Oracle, Palm and Symbian are the first to respond, Ericsson said.
