WASHINGTON-U S West Corp. and AirTouch Paging have signed an interconnection agreement that pays terminating compensation at U S West end-office rates to AirTouch for local traffic originated by U S West.
The 27-month contract will be effective in each of the nine states as it is approved by the individual state commissions.
The agreement also provides relief from facilities charges, including rates comparable to what is paid to personal communications services and cellular carriers.
The agreement means that only SBC Communications Inc.-the largest local telephone company-has not signed a paging interconnection agreement. “The train is gaining speed and SBC needs to hurry up and get on board,” said Angela Giancarlo, director of federal regulatory affairs for the Personal Communications Industry Association.
