ARLINGTON, Va. – the Telecommunications Industry Association and its subsidiary, the MultiMedia Telecommunications Association, announced the findings of its jointly produced report, “2000 MultiMedia Telecommunications Market Review and Forecast.”
The wireless market, which grew 17.4 percent to $57.7 billion in 1999, has emerged from being “an interesting add-on” to an “essential component,” said Arthur C. Gruen, author of the report.
The findings included that over-all U.S. telecommunications equipment and services revenue grew by more than 11.4 percent to $517.6 billion this year. Spending on telecom equipment continued its double-digit growth by increasing 11.5 percent to reach $135.4 billion for the year, said TIA.
MMTA President Mary Bradshaw said enterprise spending on professional and technical services in support of voice and data communications equipment rose 18.1 percent in 1999 to $116.4 billion.
“The growth shows that while business customers want their high-end applications, they don’t want to have to be their own integrators,” Bradshaw said. “Solve the end user’s business problems and the technology sales will follow.”
