RICHARDSON, Texas-HighwayMaster Communications Inc., a provider of wireless voice and data communications services to the commercial trucking and service vehicle industries, has been chosen to provide Ameritech and other member companies of SBC Communications Inc. with more than 28,000 of the company’s Series 5005S intelligent mobile units.
The installation, which will occur throughout the year, also includes enhanced proprietary software and services, according to HighwayMaster.
The mobile units will provide vehicle fleets with event-based location tracking, mobile voice communication, and a location-based panic alarm device using both terrestrial-based wireless communications capabilities and the global positioning system satellite network.
“This order will almost triple, to over 43,000, the number of mobile units we will have installed at various SBC companies,” said Jana Bell, president and chief executive officer of HighwayMaster. “We believe that the additional order from SBC indicates that HighwayMaster’s patented mobile technology is a solution long needed by service fleets to maximize efficiency and provide better customer service.”
