SYDNEY, Australia-Lucent Technologies Inc. unveiled two contracts-one with AAPT in Australia and the other with Telecom New Zealand-to build wireless mobile phone networks using Code Division Multiple Access technology.
The contracts are valued at a total of $400 million.
The $300 million contract with AAPT calls for Lucent to build and support AAPT’s new national CDMA network, with a full commercial launch scheduled for later this year. Lucent expects the new network to support more than 1 million subscribers.
Telecom New Zealand’s contract with Lucent, valued at $100 million, involves building the carrier’s new CDMA network, with an expected launch date sometime next year.
Lucent will supply and install its latest wireless products, including mobile switching centers, base stations, micro cells, voice mail and messaging services, and it may provide vendor financing.
