Vodafone New Zealand to trial Nokia GPRS, WAP solutions

ESPOO, Finland-Vodafone New Zealand agreed to trial Nokia’s General Packet Radio Service core network solution and Wireless Application Protocol platform.

Nokia said it will deliver its Internet Protocol core network infrastructure, including the company’s Serving GPRS Support Node, Gateway GPRS Support Node, Charging Gateway, and Charging Center.

With the new infrastructure, Vodafone will be able to provide mobile Internet access to its subscribers, offering packet switched data via its Global System for Mobile communications network.

The agreement also calls for Nokia to supply its WAP platform, allowing mobile Internet services to be accessed through WAP-enabled mobile phones and other devices.

Vodafone expects trials of WAP services to begin immediately, using the Nokia 7110 media phone, Nokia’s Artus Messaging Platform WAP Gateway and Artus MAX Server.
