Motorola, Cadence unveil module design

AUSTIN, Texas-Motorola Inc. and Cadence Design Systems Inc. introduced a fully integrated FLEX Messaging Module reference design that can be integrated into a variety of industrial, commercial and consumer applications.

The solution includes a radio frequency FLEX receiver, using 900 MHz RF, and a separate baseband processor board allowing for custom interfacing to a range of applications.

Cadence will license the design, including the schematics, a bill of materials, detailed documentation and software, and will assist with application development. The company will also provide design services to help customers optimize, integrate and design solutions for volume manufacturing.

Motorola will contribute its DigitalDNA embedded technology via its MMC2080 integrated FLEX decoder built around the MCORE 32-bit RISC microcontroller.

“The FLEX network remains one of the most reliable and cost-effective ways to deliver messaging data,” noted Omid Tahernia, general manager of Motorola’s Wireless Communications Division.

The reference design is ready today under license from Cadence with a development kit for system evaluation expected to be available from Motorola in April.
