BURNABY, British Columbia-Rogers AT&T Wireless Inc. placed an order for a branded version of Infowave Software Inc.’s Symmetry software that Rogers will offer to new and existing subscribers using digital personal communications services phones, wireless data services and paging.
The Symmetry software works with Microsoft Outlook to send e-mail messages, calendar, meeting reminders and task lists to users of wireless devices. With two-way devices, users also can reply to e-mail messages and query their Outlook information to request contacts, schedules and task lists.
“Symmetry turns the wireless device that Rogers AT&T Wireless subscribers are already carrying into a powerful link back to their desktop,” said Jim McIntosh, president and chief executive officer of Infowave.
Rogers also signed an agreement with Research In Motion Ltd. to distribute RIM’s BlackBerry Internet Edition in Canada.
BlackBerry offers customers a single-mailbox, mobile solution with both wireless and Web-based access to e-mail messages. Rogers will supply customers with a single e-mail address and mailbox that can be accessed through their BlackBerry Wireless Handheld and through a personal computer using a password-protected Rogers Web site.
According to RIM, Rogers placed an initial order for 10,000 BlackBerry devices.
