Motorola dealer meeting features award, Ditka

LAS VEGAS-The Motorola Inc. dealer meeting last week featured the infamously hot-tempered Mike Ditka, former coach of the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints, and now a football commentator for CBS Sports, as its motivational speaker.

Central to the theme of Ditka’s speech was that character is a necessary component for success. “Reputation is what people think of you, character is what you are,” Ditka told the dealers.

Ditka’s appearance continued a National Football League theme at the dealer meeting, capitalizing on Motorola’s sponsorship of the NFL.

Prior to Ditka’s appearance, which the company had kept silent from almost everybody, Jim Sarallo, Motorola senior vice president and general manager for radio dealers, presented the company’s Pinnacle of Customer Excellence Award to Scott Weisenbur of Creative Communications of Phoenix, Ariz.

The Pinnacle Award recognizes top two-way radio dealers who in 1999 best exemplified putting customers first, said Motorola. Runners-up for the award were Don and Jeff Livingston of CES/Team One of Pensacola, Fla., and Bill Landis of tuWAY wireless of Bethlehem, Pa.

RCR sponsored this year’s Pinnacle Awards.
