Wireless prices decline in February

LOS ANGELES-Wireless service prices fell during February, according to a recent survey of wireless phone service.

The report, by Econ One Research Inc., showed the average price per month for cell phone service was $41.56, down 0.4 percent from January.

The economic research and consulting firm surveys the price of cell phone service in 25 major U.S. cities each month across four levels of use: 30, 150, 300 and 600 minutes.

Boston led all the cities surveyed with a 7.3-percent decrease in the average price of service, followed by Washington, D.C., with a 5.5-percent drop.

San Francisco had the greatest increase in average price, climbing 8 percent from January to $45.85, making the Bay Area the most expensive major market in the country. Los Angeles was second to San Francisco with prices dropping 1 percent to $45.59 in February. Dallas continued in third place despite a 1-percent drop in average service prices.

Sacramento, Calif., was the least expensive during the month, averaging $36.75, followed by Phoenix at $37.82 and Boston at $38.41.
