BPA Systems Inc., a developer of business-to-business software solutions, unveiled a wireless Web application server that fuses and extends standard Internet tools to create a solution for Web site development and deployment.
The new application, BPWEB, supports all types of wireless Web devices such as cellular phones and personal digital assistants through the Wireless Application Protocol/Wireless Markup Language standard and fully supports traditional wired Web applications with complete HyperText Markup Language support, according to the company.
BPA claims this device and application support allows wireless and wired Web applications to quickly be developed and deployed with a single high-performance and scalable platform.
“BPWEB will lead the way for new innovations by using the Internet’s standards for best practices,” noted Callie Pottorf, research analyst for wireless and mobile communications at International Data Corp. “Companies now have a proven technology to drive their e-business and wireless initiatives for information and content delivery.”
The new applications also alleviate complaints about having to write two separate Web pages to satisfy both graphic-rich personal computer accessible sites and less graphic-intensive Web pages accessible by wireless devices by separating Web presentation from Web content.
Dynamic Web content can be packaged as BPWEB Objects by application developers and presented to Web designers as simple drag and drop icons in Macromedia’s Dreamweaver program.
BPA also noted that the new application is a tightly integrated native extension of Apache, a popular Web server with more than 61 percent of all public Web sites, creating a server tool with unmatched performance, scalability and ease of administration.
Even with more than two years invested in developing BPWEB, BPA is providing the new program as a free download to Web and application developers, while selling application packages to corporations.
