IRVINE, Calif.-Toshiba Corp. has developed a complementary metal oxide semiconductor image sensor that incorporates an analog-to-digital converter and achieves the industry’s lowest power consumption in this class of device, according to Toshiba America Electronics Components Inc.
The new sensor, available in both color and black and white, is expected to meet the growing demand for cellular phones and other portable devices with built-in cameras.

“Growing demand for personal mobile products incorporating digital cameras, such as [personal digital assistants], ultra-compact cameras, toys with built-in cameras and a new generation of video phones, is creating a growing market for small, high-performance image sensors,” said Lee Estrada, market development director for the digital consumer business unit of TAEC. “Toshiba meets market needs with this sensor’s small package size and low power consumption.”
