NEW YORK-StarMedia Network Inc., an Internet company targeting Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking audiences, said 13 percent of its audiences have Internet access via a mobile device. The findings are part of the company’s second-annual user study of the Internet usage trends of its target markets.
The company said 65 percent of survey respondents would like to connect to the Internet via a cellular phone, personal digital assistant or pager.
Respondents said they spend an average of 10.4 hours online each week, and 50 percent have home landline Internet connection speeds of 56 kilobits per second or faster.
More than 22,500 consumers responded to the survey conducted during a four-week period during December 1999 and January 2000 by The Laredo Group. Participants could choose to take the two-part survey in Spanish, Portuguese or English.
