FreeRealTime.com Inc. launched a beta version of FRT2go, a service for use on 3Com Corp.’s Palm Computing unit Palm VII and Palm.net service, giving its members wireless access to real-time stock quotes as well as other financial market information. ATIS

The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions launched its online ATIS Document Center, an international gateway to North American telecommunications standards, guidelines, technical requirements and specifications. ATIS noted that visitors to its site can order electronic downloads of documents or receive documents on CD-ROM, paper or 1.44 MB diskette. Available documents include those from the Standards Committee T1, the Ordering and Billing Forum, the Telecommunications Industry Forum, the Internetwork Interoperability Test Coordination Committee and many other ATIS-sponsored committees. C&M

C&M Corp. unveiled its next-generation coaxial cord, Spiralink, for mobile hands-free applications. According to C&M, Spiralink coil cords offer low loss characteristics for Code Division Multiple Access, Time Division Multiple Access, Advanced Mobile Phone Service, as well as personal communications services up to 2 GHz. Attenuation will not degrade during extension life up to 100,000 extensions, and the highly flexible retractile coil cords eliminate the problem of dropped calls due to cell site transition. BSQUARE

The new bFax Pro 5.0 software, from BSquare Corp., contains several enhanced features including Internet faxing and inking and annotation support for users of Windows CE-based handheld personal computers, handheld PC Pros and palm-size PCs. BSquare noted that through Internet faxing, telephone connection costs are reduced, document delivery is confirmable and the need to have the PC Companion turned on to receive a fax is eliminated. The inking and annotation support allows the use of a stylus to open the document to be faxed, and by writing on the touchscreen or touchpad, add “handwritten” notes to a document. (888) 820-4500.

MELARD

Melard Technologies Inc., a provider of business-to-business mobile data systems, unveiled its SIDEARM All-Terrain Handheld Personal Computer, a Microsoft Windows CE-based laptop with integrated wireless communications. The SIDEARM uses a 206 MHz Intel StrongARM processor, 16 megabytes of random access memory, a 75-key keyboard with 10-number keypad and 10 programmable keys, one Compact Flash slot, one Type II/Type III slot, one serial port, one USB host connector and one 115K IrDA port. The new computer is optimized for use with cellular and wireless radio-frequency modems from DataTac, Mobitex, CDPD, GDM and wireless LAN modems. ALLTECH COMMUNICATIONS

AllTech Communications L.L.C. unveiled its new product line, “The Spider Series,” featuring the ATC-106 portable tower unit. The 106-foot tower trailer guys to itself so crews deploying it do not have to set anchors in the ground allowing the entire tower to be erected in about 20 minutes. The ATC-106 also features a twin winch cable system keeping the expandable tower from failing in the event that a cable should fail either when deploying or extracting the tower. The bumper pull trailer, with dual axle suspension, is rated for up to 16,000 pounds capacity, according to AllTech. (918) 585-9400.

Murata Electronics

Murata Electronics North America introduced the PLW3216S Wire-Wound Surface Mount Common-Mode Choke Coil providing an EMI filtering solution to manage the increased data transmission speeds for the next-generation of electronic devices. The new Choke Coil uses Murata’s winding technology enabling a high coupling coefficient and common noise suppression. Murata also notes that the PLW3216S Series is a lead-free product. vVault

vVault Inc. unveiled its vVault Anywhere program, an online storage and messaging application. Built on the company’s Internet file repository and delivery platform, vVault Anywhere now supports multiple wireless devices, including Wireless Application Protocol-enabled phones and Palm VII handheld computers. The new program allows mobile professionals to store both electronic and hardcopy documents in a personalized vVault account, access and share those documents and deliver them to any e-mail address or fax machine in the world. Documents are maintained at vVault’s data center, hosted and maintained at Exodus Communications. vVault noted that the program is available for download from either its Web site, www.vVault.com, or CNET Download.com. Cynet

Cynet Inc.’s Wireless Division introduced its Complete Wireless Cell/Modem, a Type III personal computer card allowing users to connect to the Internet, send e-mail messages, send and receive faxes and make wireless phone calls. The company claims the modem provides connection speeds of 21,600 baud for wireless connections and is one of the only V.34 cellular modems on the market today. With a piece of hardware called the Jabra EarSet, users can plug the earpiece into the cell/modem and dial directly through the proprietary software to make wireless phone calls. (800) 964-2963.

Summitek Instruments

Summitek Instruments Corp. unveiled its new BaseSTAR Interference Analyzer designed to help wireless service providers manage their bandwidth by measuring RF frequencies for overlapping coverage causing dropped calls and other symptoms related to signal interference. The analyzer probe antenna eliminates the need to directly connect to base stations and can troubleshoot the airwaves while the base station is operational. Summitek noted that the analyzer is global positioning system-enabled allowing the instrument to identify its exact location and location of surrounding transmitters, and it becomes “smarter” the more it is used by learning characteristics of the service provider’s wireless network and surrounding RF environment over time. MSI

Metapath Software International unveiled its Ceer 1.1 customer relationship management software application, combining network data with business and marketing data to produce a customer experience record for every customer. MSI said Ceer 1.1 is the first product designed specifically for wireless service providers and offers tailored services that help them to develop more effective customer relationship management strategies for second- and third-generation networks. MSI also announced the release of Planet DMS 2.0, its premier wireless network planning application, bringing enhancements to advanced radio-frequency capabilities. The new application features the Survey Prediction Tool enabling operators to re-use existing propagation surveys in the planning and optimization of their networks, and the new Interactive Frequency Planner module, which gives operators the freedom to make informal manual changes to frequency assignments. Schlumberger, a provider of smart card-based solutions, expanded its range of Simera Java Subscriber Identity Module smart cards to include five new platforms enabling mobile operators to take advantage of new business opportunities in value-added servic
es for the Global System for Mobile communications market. The new platforms include Simera Trade, Simera
e-motion, Simera N@vigate, Simera Libertis and the Simera Classic, each geared to a specific market need. Schlumberger also launched P@S, an Internet technology-based Java applet management server. The new server is designed to simplify value-added services management for mobile network operators, content providers and subscribers. The server allows operators and providers to centralize value-added services applet management, speed the deployment of new services and exploit the flexibility of the company’s Cyberflex Subscriber Identity Module smart card. Schlumberger also unveiled its Simera Designer Studio, a Windows-based graphical software tool that reduces time-to-market for value-added services running on Java-based SIM smart cards. According to the company, the new software allows value-added service developers to design SIM Toolkit applications, generate and validate the Java code automatically and test the program on a live SIM card in a matter of hours. Equifax

Equifax introduced a second-tier level to its premier fraud prevention tool for the telecommunications and utilities industries. In addition to the features included in the original FraudScam, FraudScam Plus uses social security numbers in the verification process, allowing simultaneous searches of multiple databases. According to Equifax, service providers can choose the level of service by indicating how many data sources are to be searched and to what degree of detail. Dynamic Telecommunications

Dynamic Telecommunications Inc., a provider of wireless receivers used in network optimization and drive test applications, unveiled its Real Time Market Analysis tool designed to measure the level of wireless traffic across multiple protocols for a given location. The company also introduced a new product designed for fixed location base station monitoring capable of both forward and reverse channel monitoring as well as making measurements that include error vector magnitude I/Q offset, frequency accuracy, received signal strength indication and subscriber access termination accuracy.
