Lucent to expand IWO network

ALBANY, N.Y.-Independent Wireless One Corp. signed a supply contract with Lucent Technologies Inc. enabling the wireless carrier to expand the coverage and capacity of its personal communications services network in select Northeastern markets.

Lucent will provide the switching hardware and software as well as radio hardware and software needed to build out IWO’s portion of the Sprint PCS wireless network. Lucent also is providing program and project management services to coordinate, schedule and track the network buildout.

According to IWO, the contract is valued at up to $85 million.
