Phone.com Inc. and Sunday, a developer and provider of telecommunications and wireless Internet-related services in Hong Kong, launched mobile Internet services using the Phone.com Wireless Application Protocol UP.Link Server 4.0. The service, branded “SO WAP,” positions Sunday as the first carrier to deliver mobile Internet services in Hong Kong.

Venezuela

Nexus Telocation Systems Ltd. said it received an additional order for automatic vehicle location infrastructure to be deployed outside Caracas, Venezuela. The AVL system enables operators to locate vehicles and use personal location and other security applications, Nexus said. The order is the third Nexus has received to expand the system in Venezuela.

Australia

InfoSpace announced Vodafone AirTouch plc’s Australian provider has launched wireless Internet services using InfoSpace’s platform, allowing wireless users to access e-mail, address book and other information from both wireless devices and desktop computers.

Belgium

Winstar Communications Inc. is making its first appearance outside the United States with the availability of its high-speed broadband capabilities in the commercial buildings owned by Cofinimmo SA, a listed property company in Belgium. The agreement calls for Winstar to offer its services, including Internet, data, Web-based information, local and long-distance services to Cofinimmo’s 86 office buildings in several business markets throughout Belgium.

China

L.M. Ericsson and Guangdong Mobile Communications Co. Ltd. signed a contract for the sixth expansion of GMCC’s Global System for Mobile communications network. The contract, valued at more than $630 million, calls for Ericsson to deliver Release 8 software designed to support the introduction of higher-bandwidth data and multimedia services facilitating the evolution of GSM to third-generation technology.
