Mobex buys Regionet Wireless

LAFAYETTE, Calif.-Mobex Communications Inc. acquired Regionet Wireless, which holds more than 3,900 channels in the Automated Maritime Telecommunications System band in states and metropolitan areas along the United States’ East and West coasts, as well as the Great Lakes.

The acquisition comes on the heels of Mobex’s purchase of Waterway Communications System L.L.C., another communications network provider in the AMTS band, and provides Mobex with a dominate position in AMTS services in the United States.

“Mobex has created a wide area contiguous footprint in the United States that is unparalleled in the AMTS or [specialized mobile radio] industry,” said Will Greene, president and chief operating officer of Mobex Network Services. “Traditional maritime customers and commercial radio customers alike can expect to receive the full benefits of the latest available technology in a footprint never before offered.” Financial terms of the acquisition were not released.
