DENVER-SmartRoute Systems, Verizon Wireless and the Colorado Department of Transportation introduced a service that delivers free real-time traffic, weather and roadway construction schedules to Verizon Wireless customers in Colorado.
Callers also will have access to information about Denver International Airport, Amtrak and RTD Bus and Light Rail, all by pressing #211 on a Verizon Wireless cellular phone, the companies said.
“Real-time traffic information for callers will be generated from the SmarTraveler Interactive Voice Response system,” said Steve Kuciemba of SmartRoute Systems.
Kuciemba said the information is gathered via traffic cameras, law enforcement agencies, aircraft and commuters acting as road reporters. He said SmartRoute currently has about 10 reporters, but hopes to eventually recruit 400 to 500.
Routes in Denver to be covered include I-25, I-70, I-225, I-270, I-76, U.S. 6, U.S. 36, U.S. 85, U.S. 285, CO 58, CO 83 and Pena Boulevard.
