ATLANTA-First Data Corp. announced a partnership with Aether Systems Inc. under which the two will develop and market wireless payment products and services for mobile phones, personal digital assistants and paging devices.
The agreement is the first step in developing a more comprehensive suite of mobile commerce offerings, the companies said. First Data is an electronic commerce and payment services firm. With Aether’s wireless expertise, the company hopes to offer such products as a wireless wallet, virtual point-of-sale terminals and shopping portals. In addition, it hopes to make First Data’s subsidiary Western Union money transfer services available to wireless devices.
