Nokia bolsters 3G, IP product lines

HELSINKI, Finland-Nokia Corp. introduced several solutions designed to improve the services available from the company’s third-generation and Internet Protocol product offerings.

Based on Open Service Architecture standardized by the 3G Partnership Project, Nokia’s new 3G Service Creation and Execution Platform is designed to provide seamless interoperability between different network elements and protocols making it possible to integrate 3G, Wireless Application Protocol and IP access under a single service.

The company also announced the immediate availability of its commercial General Packet Radio Service core network infrastructure, which fully supports all European Telecommunications Standards Institute and American National Standards Institute specifications and interfaces. Nokia noted it was able to fully implement this technology in volumes faster than any other vendor.

In addition, Nokia introduced a third-generation all-IP core based on IPv6 that can be connected to radio and data network standards enabling a future-proof, end-to-end network for 3G Mobile Multimedia.

Nokia also unveiled mobile IP packet data for digital professional mobile radio networks incorporating Terrestrial Trunked Radio technology. The new solutions are intended to offer IP end-to-end solutions designed to enhance access to WAP services and more efficient WAP service development.

For Time Division Multiple Access-EDGE networks, Nokia introduced a solution that includes the GPRS core, Base Station Subsystem and end-user service creation platforms to plan, deploy and manage TDMA-EDGE networks, including systems integration.

According to the company, the TDMA-EDGE solution allows operators to lay the groundwork for future 3G networks by maximizing investments already made and allowing networks to be designed to support unlimited IP traffic capacity from the very beginning.
