SAN CARLOS, Calif.-More than 40,000 U.S. physicians are using a Palm Pilot application designed to prevent medication errors, according to ePocrates Inc.
The ePocrates network allows physicians with Palm OS-based handheld devices to access drug dosing and other prescribing information, such as indication-specific dosing, adverse reactions and drug interactions. In addition, the application includes a feature that automatically updates information such as indication approvals and product recalls.
“Sifting through a physician desk reference (PDR) every time you write a prescription is not practical,” said Dr. Joseph Spaulding, a San Francisco urologist. “With ePocrates on my PDA, I can quickly check the dosage, side effects and drug interactions for any medication I am ordering at any time or place.”
