Cable & Wireless HKT Mobile Services and Nokia Corp. successfully completed their third-generation trials and the provision of a commercially available 43.2 kbps high-speed circuit switched data service in Hong Kong. Nokia noted that the recently completed second phase of 3G trials involved intensive testing of wideband Code Division Multiple Access to determine the system’s advanced technology and features. In addition, C&W HKT said it is ready to offer General Packet Radio Service capabilities using Nokia Networks systems.
United Kingdom
Comverse Networks Systems, a division of Comverse Technology Inc., will provide next-generation advanced messaging services to British digital mobile phone operator One 2 One. Comverse noted the enhanced services will enable One 2 One to offer call return, as well as fax and voice messaging with an integrated mailbox for its mobile subscribers.
France
Active Software Inc.’s ActiveWorks Integration System is being used by Bouygues Telecom, a French mobile operator, to build the integration infrastructure for its next-generation information system. One of the projects Bouygues Telecom plans to deploy using the new system is a Web portal offering customers a range of interactive services, such as e-commerce and electronic billing. Bouygues also plans to use the new platform to underpin the next generation of mobile phone and Internet integration that it intends to launch by the end of the year.
Morocco
Orbcomm Global L.P., a commercial provider of global low-earth orbit satellite data communication services, reported that its Moroccan service licensee, Orbcomm Maghreb S.A., is licensed to provide full commercial service in the kingdom of Morocco. Orbcomm Maghreb plans to immediately market services to industries, including oil and gas, transportation, marine, utility, security and fisheries in the northwest African country.
