LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-Alltel will test a new wireless voice and data technology that is expected to improve how the company deploys competitive local telephone service by bypassing the normal wired telecommunications access to homes.
During the test phase, expected to last several months, Alltel said it will provide fixed wireless local loops to connect about 250 residential and small business telephone customers in the Little Rock, Ark., area.
Alltel said the technology, developed by Airspan Networks Inc. will use existing cellular sites and Alltel’s personal communications services’ licenses to transmit signals to customer’s homes.
