ARLINGTON, HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s Network Solutions Sector signed a $123.5 million digital cellular network expansion contract with China’s Hunan Mobile Communications Corp., a Global System for Mobile communications network operator.
Under terms of the contract, Motorola will deploy its Horizonsystems and M-Cell infrastructure solutions to expand a GSM 900 and GSM 1800 dual-band cellular network in Hunan Province. The expansion is expected to allow for an additional 1.4 million subscribers.
“This expansion will not only enable the operator to provide higher quality levels of voice services for their customers, it will also lay the foundation for new, high-speed data networks of the future, such as General Packet Radio Service,” said Ruey Bin Kao, general manager of China operations for Motorola’s Greater China Network Solutions Division.
Work is expected to start immediately in 12 cities in the province to deploy Motorola’s Horizonsystem infrastructure solutions to provide additional coverage and capacity on both a macrocellular and microcellular basis.
