Dear Editor,
I think you really said it with the quote “Is it possible to specialize in things that haven’t happened yet?” (Viewpoint in the June 12 issue of RCR.)
As an industry we have been very guilty of creating expectations and painting pictures at the expense of delivering the solutions people want that can add value to their business or enhance the usability of their wireless service.
It is also a sign of the times that companies with incredible valuations grow through acquisition (Do they have any real organic growth?) and large corporate entities buy businesses that really do not seem to fit their current mission.
To ensure continued success in technology markets, I believe those of us who run businesses that develop software solutions (or publish magazines, etc.) still do need to focus on what we do well, and what really creates value for the customer. If M&A activities do not support this then ultimately the shake-up you describe will take place.
Thanks for your thought-provoking article.
