PALO ALTO, Calif.-Corsair Communications Inc. reported that Wyoming-based Union Telephone signed up its first customer for Corsair’s PrePay Open, an infrastructure-independent wireless prepaid billing system.
Union Telephone previously used a handset-based prepaid solution that forced subscribers to purchase phones, and its marketing programs could not be released in real-time, according to Corsair.
Corsair also released financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, showing an increase in net income from the previous year’s $2.4 million to $3.4 million this year.
Net revenues were also up from $16 million, or 13 cents per share, recorded during the second quarter of 1999, to $17 million, or 18 cents per share, for 2000.
Tom Meyer, president and chief executive office of Corsair, attributed the increases to the growth in the subscriber base of its PrePay platform, which now supports 11 million subscribers.
