CALGARY, Alberta-Air2Lan will build a nationwide broadband wireless network using Wi-Lan Inc.’s broadband access products, the companies announced.
Air2Lan launched high-speed Internet access service in Jackson, Miss., in May, and based on the success of that service launch, the company said it is purchasing approximately $1 million in additional Wi-Lan equipment.
Air2Lan will build its network using Wi-Lan’s high-speed Hopper Plus wireless Ethernet bridges and I.WiLL System, compatible with Cisco Systems Inc.’s network equipment. Air2Lan will be able to offer last-mile Internet access at speeds up to 2 Megabits per second.
“Not only are Wi-Lan products cost-effective on a dollar-per-megabit-per-hertz basis, they also provide the flexibility we need to maximize our service coverage,” said Jai P. Bhagat, Air2Lan chairman and chief executive officer.
By 2003, Air2Lan expects its network to span 44 major markets nationwide.
