LONDON-The U.K. government said 12 companies applied to bid in the October auction for 28 GHz broadband fixed wireless access licenses. The auction is expected to raise about $1.45 billion.
Three licenses will be auctioned in each of 11 English regions, along with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, for a total 42 licenses.
Companies that applied to participate include Atlas Communications, Broadnet, Chorus Communication, Energis, Faultbasic, FirstMark Communications, Formus Communications, Norweb Telecom, Orange, Priority Wireless and Templeco 489 and Winstar Communications. Qualifying applications will be named around the end of September.
