MOSCOW-Russian cellular provider Mobile TeleSystems OJSC launched a Motorola Inc. supplied GPRS mobile data network trial on its dual band GSM 900 network.
“We are very pleased to see MTS moving toward an all-IP core network using our end-to-end GPRS solution, along with some of the world’s leading GSM operators,” said Gene O’Rourke, vice president and regional general manager for Motorola’s Global Telecom Solutions Sector.
“Mobile phone users in Russia will soon start using some of the latest wireless services made available thanks to the new technology.”
The trials are expected to be held through September, with commercial launch scheduled for December.
