ARLINGTON, Va.-TeleCorp PCS Inc., an AT&T Wireless Services Inc. affiliate, and Comverse Network Systems introduced a voice-activated voice-mail service, providing TeleCorp’s SunCom subscribers the ability to retrieve messages and interact with their voice-mail system verbally.
TeleCorp said the service will allow users to review, respond to and delete messages just as they would using a traditional touch-tone system. The service also includes a “barge-in” option enabling the system to recognize spoken commands while a system prompt or message is playing.
Both companies noted they performed extensive research on the product in TeleCorp’s markets to ensure the quality and reliability of the technology. In addition, the companies worked with voice prompt speech samples from areas with unique accents and speech patterns, including New Orleans, Memphis, Puerto Rico and parts of New England to ensure the system accommodates multi-lingual and multi-dialect commands.
The service, free for SunCom subscribers, is initially available in TeleCorp’s Memphis, Tenn., market, with plans to roll out the service to the company’s 36 markets over the next several months.
