Globalstar Canada roams internationally

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario-Globalstar Canada extended roaming coverage in Australia and South America and expanded service coverage in parts of the Caribbean, Alaska and the North Atlantic including southern Greenland and Iceland.

Australia

The extended coverage in Australia was made possible by ground stations at Dubbo, Mount Isa, and Meekatharra, providing roaming capabilities to all of the Australian continent and Tasmania, 200 miles off the mainland.

Roaming services in South America are being provided by gateways in Venezuela and Argentina, and provide coverage to Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile.

The Caribbean coverage provides expanded roaming capabilities to all the islands except Cuba, the Cayman Islands and Jamaica. Caribbean coverage is scheduled to be switched to the company’s Puerto Rican gateway during the fourth quarter.

The expanded coverage area for both the North Atlantic and Alaska was made possible by upgrades to the gateway earth-stations in both North America and Europe that work in conjunction with Globalstar’s 48-satellite constellation network.

“The expanded coverage in these areas will offer an improved level of service to Globalstar Canada customers working in maritime-based industries,” said Peter White, general manager of Globalstar Canada.
