SANTA CLARA, Calif.-Palm Inc. shipped 1.5 million handheld computers during its first financial quarter of 2000, ended Sept. 1, up from 600,000 units shipped during the same quarter of 1999, and helping the company post increased revenue results of $401 million, compared with $176.5 million reported last year.
The company also reported an increase in net income from $9.7 million last year, to $17.3 million this year. The increased net income results beat expectations, with the company returning 4 cents per share for the quarter, compared with the 2 cents per share expected by analysts.
Palm shares were up $3.31 per share in morning trading, to $55.56 per share.
