Lucent
Lucent Technologies Inc. announced that John Young, former president and chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard Co. and a current member of the Lucent board of directors, will become chairman of the company’s Microelectronics business, which will be spun off into a separate company next year. Young led HP from 1978 to 1992 and has been a member of its board since 1974. He has served as a Lucent board member since 1996.
mDiversity
mDiversity, a company that is developing software and hardware solutions designed to increase spectrum efficiency, said Dave House has joined the company’s board of directors. House spent 22 years at Intel Corp. where he led the development of Intel’s microprocessor line, including the Pentium processor, and managed the launch of the “Intel Inside” advertising campaign. House later served as chairman, chief executive officer and president of Bay Networks, which was acquired by Nortel Networks
ArrayComm
ArrayComm announced Joseph Hagan joined the company as executive vice president of finance and administration and chief financial officer. He will oversee all financial and administrative matters for ArrayComm. Hagan joins ArrayComm from Ericsson North America where he was responsible for finance, legal, IT, purchasing and real estate development.
Zeus
Zeus Wireless Inc. named David Micek president and chief executive officer. He will be responsible for leading Zeus into strategic markets and partnerships, said the company. Micek has served as CEO of iKnowledge Inc., where he established partnerships with CBS, Universal Studios and Motorola. Prior to that, Micek served as vice president and general manger within the application development software group of Texas Instruments.
Aquis Communications
Aquis Communications Corp. introduced John Frieling as its new chief executive officer, following the resignation of Nick Catania, former CEO and president, who left to pursue personal and other interests. Frieling has more than 15 years of experience in the paging and communications field, the company said. He is the third CEO of Aquis since the company formed two years ago. Catania replaced John Adiletta, the firm’s founding CEO, in January.
PacketVideo
PacketVideo Corp. announced an executive appointment to expand its presence in the European mobile video market. Jim Cook has joined the company from VeriFone. He will manage PacketVideo’s e-commerce software business in Europe as general manager. Cook will be responsible for deploying the company’s technology to leading European operators, manufacturers and content providers.
Hybrid Networks
Hybrid Networks, a fixed wireless broadband Internet access company, elected Philip J. Kushner to its board of directors. He is a shareholder in the international law firm of Greenberg Traurig focusing on corporate and securities law.
Paradigm
Paradigm Advanced Technologies Inc. appointed J. Edward Antecol general counsel. He formerly was regulatory vice president of AT&T Canada. Antecol will act as the company’s principal adviser on all contractual and legal matters and will play a role in protecting Paradigm’s intellectual properties for its patents on the company’s satellite navigational technologies.
equitel
equitel, a prepaid wireless provider, named Carl Nordgren chief marketing officer. He will oversee sales and marketing for the company and assist in equitel’s strategic business development initiatives. Nordgren was co-founder and CEO of FGI Inc., a marketing services company specializing in telecom, technology and financial and legal services. He also founded and served as president of Sterling Cellular and was president of Providence Journal Cellular.
SRS Labs
Todd Goulart has joined SRS Labs as an account executive. He joins the audio and voice technology company from Inter-Tel Technologies, a designer and manufacturer of telecom equipment. Goulart will focus on implementing the company’s proprietary technologies into wireless markets worldwide.
Zucotto Wireless
Dave Wenk has been appointed chief marketing officer at Zucotto Wireless Inc., which provides Java semiconductors for mobile multimedia and wireless Internet applications. In his new role, Wenk will be responsible for creating and directing the company’s business strategies and managing the global marketing organization. Wenk has held senior marketing and product management positions with Uniden, Integrated Systems and Hughes Network Systems. He also ran his own consulting practice. Wenk will report to Mark Wells, Zucotto Wireless president and chief executive officer.
Air2Lan
Air2Lan, a broadband Internet service provider, has named James V. Smith as the company’s chief operating officer. Smith’s duties include direct, wholesale and strategic distribution, customer service, field marketing, designing budgets, acquisitions, inventory management and billing for the company. Smith founded and is a former president of Meta3, which provided network consulting, Web design and Internet access. Smith also previously was president of Big Net Inc., a high bandwidth business-to-business networking company.
Ixthos Inc.
Daniel Schwed has joined Ixthos Inc., which manufactures advanced board level DSP solutions. As the company’s director of product development, Schwed will be responsible for meeting the company’s commitments on standard products and custom projects. Schwed previously was employed at Raytheon, where he was engineering manager responsible for DSP development. He holds five patents.
Scanz Communications
Ira J. Tabankin has been appointed chief strategic officer at Scanz Communications Inc. Santa Monica, Calif.-based Scanz provides a handheld wireless portable electronic video display device that can receive in real-time audio and full motion video digital microwave transmissions as well as access the Internet. Tabankin comes to Scanz from Cadence Design Services, where he was director North America wireless. Prior to joining Cadence, Tabankin was president and chief operating officer of Meridian Wireless Technologies Inc.
