KANSAS CITY-Sprint PCS introduced a suite of new messaging services to its Wireless Web portfolio, including America Online Inc.’s Instant Messenger technology and a wireless chat function from Jumpbuck Corp.
Sprint has added a new “Messaging” folder to the top deck of its Wireless Web start page which organizes these services as well as other Sprint PCS messaging services like the new Short Mail and existing Sprint PCS Mail. AOL Instant Messenger technology allows users to trade instant messages and recieve lists of other AIM users available either at home, on a desktop PC or on a similarly enabled wireless phone. The Sprint Short Mail service is another instant messaging capability designed for handset-to-handset text messaging between Sprint PCS phone customers.
Sprint Mail is the company’s existing wireless email sreivce, while the Wireless Chat function allows users to enter chat rooms powered by Jumpbuck from their wireless devices.
“We believe that young adults in particular will be especially intered in taking advantage of the suite of messaging services we’re introducting today,” said Charles Levine, chief operating officer of Sprint PCS.
