Japanese mobile users increase 10 percent on year

TOKYO-Nomura Research Institute (NRI), a leading market research firm in Japan, on 25 October announced Japanese mobile-phone users, including both cellular phones and PHS phones, reached 69.8 percent of the population, a 10-percent increase since the beginning of the year.

According to NRI, the percentage has continued to expand rapidly, although some market watchers predicted the increasing rate would be lowered as the market becomes saturated.

The survey also found that 71.2 percent of the users select carriers based on voice quality and stable connections, while 27.4 percent select service providers based on value-added services, such as Internet connection services.
