Telecom employees die in crash

TAIPEI, Taiwan-Five Motorola Inc. employees and one executive from Cellport Systems Inc. in Boulder, Colo., were killed in the crash of Singapore Airlines’ flight SQ006 in Taipei, Taiwan, last week.

Neo Lee Keow, Jasmine Lim Lay Har and Tan Yip Thong, designers with Motorola’s Singapore Design Center; Sandy Tee Seok Choo, a staff engineer with the design center; and Philip Thomas, a member of the Analog Design Group of the company’s Semiconductor Products Sector based in Phoenix, Ariz., all perished in the crash. A total of 80 people had died at RCR Wireless News press time.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the families of our dear Motorolans and to all of those affected by this disastrous accident,” said Christopher Galvin, chief executive officer of Motorola, in a statement.

Galvin said Motorola established contact with the family members of the five employees and have provided all forms of support and assistance possible.

Jeff Platz, director of manufacturing for Cellport Systems, also died. Platz was on a business trip that was to take him from Taipei to Los Angeles, then to Mexico, then back to his residence in Ogden, Utah. The 36-year-old is survived by an 11-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son.
