Orange standardizes on Nortel switches

LONDON-France Telecom’s Orange, a United Kingdom mobile-phone provider, decided to standardize on Nortel Networks’ Alteon Web switching products to support the expansion of its infrastructure.

Orange is deploying ACEdirector 3 and Alteon 180e Web switches in its European Web data centers to manage and accelerate traffic flows.

“With these capabilities, we’ve moved well beyond simple Web-server load balancing to increasing the performance and availability of WAP gateways and virtual private network servers,” said Ian Smith, Orange’s service design architect.
