TURIN, Italy-Vehicles across China may soon be wirelessly tracked, eliminating the need to manually collect information on vehicle registration, examination, emissions, taxation or traffic records.
Systems integrator Sichuan NeoSource Intel-Tech Ltd. awarded a contract to TransCore Inc., calling for the company to deploy its Intellitag wireless communication windshield sticker tag.
TransCore said the move will improve motorist conditions and provide a sophisticated intelligent transportation system data management structure.
The company’s automatic vehicle identification management system will be used in Yibin City and could be expanded to cities across China, the company said.
During the initial stage, the country will require all vehicles in the city be issued an electronic identification number. The AVIM system will track passing vehicles and collect information on vehicle registration, examination, emissions, taxation and traffic records.
The effort is part of a larger move in China toward high-technology traffic systems, which the country hopes will improve transportation.
Sichuan NeoSource will initially use 1 million of the Intellitag sticker tags and several hundred access point radio-frequency identification readers.
The project is expected to be completed in December of next year.
