DENVER-Sprint Corp.’s Broadband Direct fixed-wireless service is available in the Denver metro and Boulder areas, the company announced.
A pizza box-sized antenna is professionally installed on a user’s roof in the line of sight of the transceiver, which can be up to 32 miles away. Users can access downstream data rates of 512 kilobits per second up to 1.5 Megabits per second, with burst rates up to 5 Mbps. Upstream rates of around 256 kbps are common, Sprint said.
The service is priced at $50 per month for residential customers, and $150 per month for businesses. Installation costs $300, but for a limited time is being waived for residential customers.
The one-time equipment charge-for both residential and business customers-varies with the terms of the agreement. Under a two-year service agreement, equipment costs are $100; for a one-year agreement, equipment costs are $200. Equipment costs are $300 for month-to-month service, Sprint said.
The “always on” service also is bundled with EarthLink Sprint Internet services, which includes six e-mail addresses, six EarthLink Personal Start Pages, 6 Megabytes of Web storage for building personal Web pages and five hours per month of remote dial-up Internet access when away from the Broadband Direct coverage area.
In addition to Denver and Boulder, Sprint Broadband Direct is available in Colorado Springs, Colo., Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz., and San Jose and Oakland, Calif.
