ICASA to remain neutral in cellular license case

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa-South Africa’s Independent Communications Authority has withdrawn from the third cellular license case. Addressing a stakeholders briefing held in Sandton, South Africa, ICASA Chairman Mandla Langa said it is in the interest of the authority to abide by the decision of the Pretoria Supreme Court and to remain neutral even though it did not concede to the allegations made against its predecessor regulator SATRA and the minister of communications.

It will therefore not present any evidence when the judicial review is held to determine whether the licensing process was flawed. A date for the judicial review has not yet been set.
