ASUNCION, Paraguay-Legislation granting permission to sell Paraguay’s state-owned telecom company Antelco was approved. Analysts predict the privatization will be complete in late 2001 or early 2002.

Discussions are centering on a plan to sell 51 percent of the company, with the state retaining 49 percent. Antelco holds a personal communications services license but has not launched service or announced specifics about its plans to do so.
