Wi-Lan reassesses revenues short of expectations

CALGARY, Alberta-Wireless infrastructure provider Wi-Lan Inc. reported its broadband wireless revenues for next year would total $32 million, more than three times higher than 2000 results, but below analyst forecasts of $54 million.

The company noted the downturn in the financial markets that caused delays in financing for wireless Internet service providers and slower-than-expected service provider deployments in the licensed frequency bands, were partly to blame for the reassessment.

Wi-Lan said it expects to break even at the end of 2001 with positive earnings returning in 2002.
