Comsat launches direct Internet access

BETHESDA, Md.-Comsat Mobile Communications said it launched direct Internet access for mobile satellite users.

Customers connect directly to the Internet and e-mail, eliminating the need for an Internet service provider. Direct Internet access is free to CMC customers using Comsat A, B, M, Mini-M and Comsat Mobile ISDN services, the company said. There are no monthly fees or start-up costs.

Comsat also announced it will provide global 128 kbps, C-Band Internet access to six pleasure cruise ships.

The Elizabeth 2 and the Caronia-operated by Cunard Line-and the Seabourn Sun, Seabourn Pride, Seabourn Spirit and Seabourn Legend-operated by Seabourn Line-will be able to offer Internet access through shipboard satellite communications solutions.

Comsat, a business unit of Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications, provides maritime, aeronautical and land mobile satellite services.
