Motorola gets HTML technology license

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill.-Just a week after rival L.M. Ericsson introduced its first i-mode phone for the Japanese market, Motorola Inc. laid out plans to get in to the i-mode game as well by licensing compact HTML browsing technology from Access Co. Ltd. of Tokyo.

The agreement allows Motorola to license Access’ Compact NetFront wireless Internet browser, which contains cHTML technology. Motorola’s Semiconductor Products Sector said it will bundle the browser technology into its DigitalDNA solutions to make them i-mode compatible.

Going further, Access is developing the next generation of Compact NetFront to support the next-generation markup language for Internet devices, as well as IPv6 and WAP.
