MURRAY HILL, N.J.-Lucent Technologies Inc. and Qualcomm Inc. completed a test of CDMA network equipment with data applications such as Web browsing, streaming video and e-mail at the highest transmission speed for third-generation wireless networks.
The equipment, which is CDMA2000 1xEV, with a speed of up to 2.4 megabits per second is 165 times faster than any available, said the companies.
“At a time when mobile operators worldwide are making major investments in spectrum and network infrastructure, 1xEV is an ideal option for cost-effectively launching 3G services,” said Holly Newman, product management director for Lucent’s wireless networks business.
